How I Plan a Journey

Stillpoint Travels designs personalized, custom European itineraries for American travelers who want authentic, culturally immersive journeys — not standard tour packages.

I'm an independent travel advisor based in Wilmington, Delaware, working with families, couples, and solo travelers across the country. Every itinerary is built one client at a time, around your interests, your pace, and what actually matters to you — not a fixed template.

Below are the questions I hear most often when people are trying to figure out how this kind of travel planning works.

What makes this different from a standard European tour package?

A standard tour package is built once and sold to everyone. I do the opposite: every itinerary starts from a conversation about how you actually want to travel — your interests, your pace, your season of life — and gets built from there. Nothing is copied from a brochure. If a landmark doesn't serve your trip, it doesn't make the itinerary, even if it's famous.

Do you work with clients outside Delaware?

Yes. Stillpoint Travels serves clients across the United States. Almost all planning happens by phone, video call, and email, so your location doesn't affect the level of service — what matters is the conversation about what you're looking for.

What kind of trips do you specialize in?

European travel exclusively — the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal and river cruise itineraries across the continent, with expansion into Ireland, Greece, and Turkey underway. I work with:

  • Families who want their kids to encounter history and beauty firsthand, with pacing that respects real life with children

  • Empty nesters and couples looking for a journey that marks a transition, not just a vacation

  • Solo travelers who want an experienced guide's judgment without sacrificing independence

  • Small groups — capped at eight couples — built around shared values rather than shared demographics

How is this different from a luxury travel planner or agency?

Many luxury planners specialize in comfort and exclusivity — the best hotel, the best table, skip-the-line access. I care about those things too, but the organizing question is different: what will this trip actually give you, beyond the memory of having gone? I plan around history, beauty, pacing, and presence — travel that changes how you see, not just what you've seen.

What does "meaningful" or "authentic" travel actually mean in practice?

It means three things, concretely:

  1. Depth over breadth. Fewer stops, chosen deliberately, rather than a checklist of cities.

  2. Real pacing. Mornings that aren't rushed, afternoons with room to wander, evenings that aren't scheduled to the minute.

  3. Context, not just access. A guide who explains why a place matters — not just skip-the-line entry.

This is travel designed to be remembered for what it taught you, not just where you went.

How much does a custom European trip cost?

Custom European journeys with Stillpoint typically begin at $15,000 for a family or couple. Group pilgrimage-style trips (Rome, the Christmas Markets river cruise) have separate per-person pricing. Every quote is built around your specific itinerary — there's no fixed package price because there's no fixed package.

How do I start?

You don't need a finished plan — a city, a season, or even just a feeling you're chasing is enough to start the conversation. From there, I listen first, discern what belongs on the itinerary and what doesn't, and design a trip with real sequence and pacing.
